IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Alfred John
Holubecki
September 7, 1945 – March 9, 2025
Alfred John Holubecki passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of resilience, patriotism, and dedication to family and country. Born in Germany at the end of World War II, Alfred's early years were shaped by the hardships his family endured in concentration camps. After liberation, his family was sponsored by a Catholic priest and immigrated to Virginia. In time, they settled in Holyoke, Massachusetts, where other extended family members had established roots after the war. Alfred grew up in Holyoke, attending Holyoke High School and graduating in 1964 before continuing his education at Holyoke Community College, where he studied business. He later enlisted in the U.S. Army and served honorably in the Vietnam War. A true patriot, he held deep respect for the American Armed Forces, whose role in liberating his family left a lasting impression on him. During his military service, Alfred was a maintenance mechanic for the 173rd Aviation Assault Helicopter Company, known as the "Robin Hoods." This helicopter unit operated in the Republic of Vietnam from 1966 to 1972 and was based at the Lai Khe plantation, an area abundant with rubber trees, which they aptly named "Sherwood Forest." Beyond his service, Alfred was a man of many passions. An avid photographer, he had a keen eye for capturing the beauty of the world around him. He loved to paint, finding solace and expression in his artwork. Some of his happiest moments were spent outdoors, embarking on hiking and fishing excursions with his brother and best friend, Henry, as well as his nephews. His love for nature and adventure was a defining part of his spirit. Professionally, Alfred worked for American Carpet and Allied Carpet as a Sales Manager for many years. Later, he and his brother, Henry purchased and operated CBS Carpet Binding Service together in Springfield. In his later years, Alfred found great joy in spending time with his nephew, John, going to tag sales and flea markets together. These outings became cherished moments of connection, laughter, and shared appreciation for history and great deals. Alfred also deeply cherished his family, especially his beloved sisters, Irene and Theresa. He held dear the Polish traditions and holidays they shared, never missing an opportunity to enjoy the warmth of family gatherings and the treasured recipes they lovingly prepared. He was predeceased by his beloved siblings: Irene Pieciak, Theresa Knowles, and Henry Holubecki, as well as his nephew Richard Pieciak. He is survived by his loving nieces and nephews and several great-nieces and great-nephews: • James Pieciak of Three Rivers • John Knowles of West Springfield • Lisa Knowles of Springfield • Christopher Pieciak of Chicopee • Mitchell Knowles of East Longmeadow • Jason Knowles of Marblehead. Alfred will be remembered for his unwavering strength, dedication to his country, and the love he had for his family. His life was a testament to perseverance, gratitude, and service. He leaves behind a legacy of honor, adventure, and an appreciation for the simple joys of life—family, tradition, and the great outdoors. Calling hours will be held for Alfred on Friday from 10am – 12pm at the O'Brien Family Funeral Home, 33 lamb St. South Hadley, MA 01075. The funeral service will take place at the funeral home at 12 noon. Burial to follow in Mater Dolorosa Cemetery. For more information or to make online condolences please visit obrienfamilyfh.com
