Obituary

Alice Marie Germain was born April 2, 1941 and passed away on February 2, 2023. She was welcomed home into the Kingdom of Heaven by her mother and father Elinor and Roland Roule, brother Jimmy Roule and sister Patricia "Sissy" Roule. Alice leaves her children Donna Germain of Belchertown, MA and her partner Karl Ender, Frank Germain Jr and his wife JoAnn of Chicopee, MA, Michael Germain of Springfield, MA, Kenny Germain and his partner Carrie Elkhay of Ludlow, MA as well as many grandchildren and great grandchildren whom she loved and adored: Daniel, Dew, Noah and Bella Chambers, Michael "Mikey" Germain, Emily Germain and Grey Cruz, Kade and Brandon Germain.  Alice is survived by five siblings: Ronald Roule, Evelyn Mikuszewski, Elinor Walsh, Barbara Marion, Catherine Cloutier and many nieces and nephews.  Alice attended and graduated from Sacred Heart High School in Holyoke, MA and entered into the Human Services field. In her career as a Personal Care Assistant to people with developmental disabilities, she displayed her compassionate nature, empathetic presence and natural inclination toward altruistic service to those in the most dire need. In her free time, Alice was an avid sports enthusiast (Go Pats! Was her battle cry), most of all she adored watching her brother Jimmy "#55" race his stock racecar at Riverside Speedway. She could bait a hook and catch a fish; however, she never kept her catch. It was not uncommon to receive a blanket crocheted by Alice for a holiday, in fact she was so adventurous with crafting she would frequently be attempting a new endeavor with glue and sequins or a knitting needle in her fingers. She collected an array of elephants over the years, ones whose trunks were always pointing up "They are good luck when the trunk is up" she would say.  To say that Alice made an impact during her time here with us would be an understatement. The evidence of her legacy lingers in the air like the sweet aroma of her pork chops. Proof of her unconditional love ripples through generations. She taught more than she knew, she spoke more with a smile than with words and her memories will be cherished and rejoiced for many, many holidays, dinners, bedtimes and mostly prayers. A calling hour will be held Wednesday February 8, 2023 from 11 a.m. to 12 noon at O'Brien Family Funeral Home in South Hadley, MA. A funeral home service will take place after the calling hour at 12 noon, followed by a celebration of life at the Granby, MA American Legion Post 266 located at 74 Pleasant St. Granby, MA.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in Alice's honor to the American Heart Association at www.heart.org/donate.
