IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Annette M.
Geoffrion
July 20, 1933 – May 2, 2021
Annette M. (Cyr) Geoffrion, 87, of Granby, passed away on Sunday, May 2, 2021, after spending a beautiful weekend playing numerous games of Scrabble and Contract Rummy with her family. Annette was born on July 20,1933, to Leo H. Cyr and Julienne (Giroux) Cyr in Chicopee. As the sixth of nine children, she quickly developed into a fierce, independent woman and held that title throughout her life. In 1953, she danced with Richard H. Geoffrion at the Roseland Ballroom, and the two were inseparable from that point on. They were married for 53 beautiful years and had five adoring children, Anne, Richard G., James, Christopher L., and Wendy Rose. They are now united with their other children, Joseph and Eve, who passed shortly after birth and were always considered Annette's personal guardian angels. In addition to being a fiercely dedicated mom to all five of her biological children, Annette opened her heart and home by fostering Lein Tran and Leslie Glod (deceased), and adopting Mark Geoffrion (Richard LeDuc) (deceased). Annette's dedication to others and generous spirit led her to a long career as a nurse, where she especially loved her more than 20 years caring for the students at Mt. Holyoke College in South Hadley. Annette had a lifelong passion for social justice that came to life in her political engagement both on the local and state levels. In South Hadley, she was an activist for affordable housing, she helped with the development of Canal Park, and assisted with the multiple 1976 Bicentennial celebrations. She also supported refugee resettlement during the Vietnam War and was the campaign manager for congressman John Olver. Since Annette was in Kindergarten, she aspired to be an artist and expressed her creativity in many forms. In her later years, she used her incredible quilting skills to donate hundreds of quilts to local women's shelters. When informed of her passing, a staff member of the Alianza shelter in Holyoke said, "Her quilts were a gift more beautiful than those women or babies could have ever imagined owning in their lifetimes. They were beautiful and practical, and placed at the foot of the bed when they welcomed in women who were fleeing for their lives with absolutely nothing. Her quilts gave women who felt worthless the knowledge that they were seen and loved." While her quilts were works of art and labors of love, Annette wanted her quilts to be used, to be loved, and to do the job they were made to do. The patchwork quilt of Annette's life wrapped up family, friends, and strangers alike in it. Annette's lessons to us will be used in the daily decisions we make. Her memories with us will be loved and will bring joy in moments of sorrow. The quilt of love that she stitched with her life has created the tapestry that allows us to be the people we were meant to be. Annette was predeceased by her loving husband Richard H. Geoffrion, her parents Leo H. Cyr and Julianne M. (Giroux) Cyr, her brothers Lionel, Donald, Norman, Gerard, Royal, Francis and Richard.
