Obituary

Arthur J. Dwyer, Jr. passed away at home on August 13th, 2023, at the age of eighty-one. Born on April 18th, 1942 in Quincy, Massachusetts, later sharing his special birthday with his daughter, he was a longtime resident of South Hadley. He was a beloved father, grandfather, and a pillar of strength for his family and friends.

As a man of determination and practicality, Arthur always put his family first. His work ethic was impeccable, and he kept his word. The people around him admired his tenacity and positive attitude. Love and grace were evident in everything he did, and he would not hesitate to give the shirt off his back for another. His contagious smile and strong presence made him the family's rock.

Arthur is survived by his daughter, Kerri Dwyer-Comeau, affectionately known as "Pumpkin," and his grandchildren, Kaileen Comeau, lovingly called "Happy Face Pretty Girl", Kyleigh Dwyer, fondly known as "Sweetie," and Brennan Dwyer tenderly known as "Bren". Cousins Anita Shillair, Dr. Maura (Eric) Buete, Mark (Trish) Devlin.

He was preceded in death by his son, Sean Dwyer, father, Arthur J. Dwyer Sr., mother, Mary Ruth Laughlin, and his Dear Aunt and Uncle Jim and Claire Devlin.

Arthur graduated from Boston College High School and obtained a bachelor's degree in philosophy from Saint Mary's University. He served in the US Navy as a Cryptologic Technician and received the Vietnam Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal. Arthur was a devout catholic and attended St. Theresa's Church in South Hadley. His faith provided him with strength and solace. He participated actively in the community, volunteering his time and resources whenever possible. In addition to founding "Concerned Fathers", he was also an integral member of "Parents without Partners".

In his free time, Arthur follows the Boston Red Sox, New England Patriots, and Boston Bruins. He cherished attending games with his grandson, Brennan, and great friend George Hojnoski. In his younger years, he enjoyed coaching a T-Ball team for his son Sean. Arthur's happy place was always the beach, he found comfort and peace in the air of saltwater.

The family would like to thank those who never failed to help Arthur and show him friendship. We would also wish to acknowledge all of the Baystate medical staff, who showed love, and support to Arthur in his medical journey.

Arthur J. Dwyer, Jr. will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all those whose lives he touched. He leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, and reliability. May his soul rest in peace. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
