Mrs. Carol Ann (Looney) Kayi of South Hadley, passed peacefully from this world Saturday, February 11. Mrs. Kayi was born in Springfield, MA to Patrick and Charlotta (Budd) Looney. She was raised in Chicopee on Rimmon Avenue and graduated from Chicopee High School in 1956. She completed an x-ray technologist program at Springfield Hospital where she met her husband, Dr. Cengiz Kayi, who was a surgical resident from Turkey. The couple married in 1958 and moved to Ankara, Turkey where Dr. Kayi worked for the American Airforce Hospital. Upon returning to the U.S., the Kayi's lived in Ohio and Maryland before settling in Farmington Hills, MI. After retiring, the couple moved to Newbury, NH, and Mount Pleasant, SC, before landing in South Hadley. Mrs. Kayi and her husband enjoyed traveling and were fortunate to have many friends and family around the country and the world, whom they were able to visit. Mrs. Kayi is survived by her son, John (Angela) Kayi and her two grandchildren Oliver and Amelia of Clarkston, MI, her daughter Leyla Kayi of South Hadley, and her daughter Lisa Kayi Motley and granddaughter, Brenna of Murrells Inlet, SC, her sister Joan (Looney) Sears of South Hadley, and many nieces and nephews in the U.S., Turkey and around the world. She is predeceased by her mother and father, her brothers Francis (Luke) Looney, Walter (Irvin) Looney, sisters Catherine (Looney) Moran, and Patricia (Looney) Goodhind and many beloved in-laws. At her request there will be no services. The immediate family will gather at the graveside later in the year.
