Obituary

Leonard S. Godek, 84, of Ashburn, Virginia passed away peacefully at the Johnson Center at Falcons Landing on 12/23/2022. He was born in Holyoke to Anne (Rzeszutek) Wozniak and Stanley Godek on 1/25/1938. He was a graduate of South Hadley High School and the University of Miami. He served in the Navy as a pilot and flew E-2C Hawkeye missions off the U.S.S. Kitty Hawk during the Vietnam War. He earned the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, the Vietnam Campaign Medal, the Air Medal with 3 gold stars, the Navy Unit Citation, the Presidential Unit Citation, and the Joint Service Commendation and retired as a Commander after 24 years of active duty. In his retirement he lived in Virginia Beach, VA and Savannah, GA and was an avid gardener, skilled woodworker, and loved keeping in touch with his Navy friends. He is predeceased by his wife of 59 years, Marilyn (Daley) Godek, his brother John (Marty) Wozniak, and his two sons Commander James Godek and Robert Godek. Len is survived by his son Stephen Godek and wife Gail of Potomac Falls, VA, his brother Michael Wozniak and his wife Eileen of South Hadley, and a nephew, James Wozniak and his partner Jennifer Weller of Chicopee. He is also survived by his two grandchildren, Michael and Matthew Godek and grand- nephew Hudson Wozniak and grand niece, Olivia Wozniak. All services are private. There will be a burial with full military honors at Arlington National Cemetery at a future date.
