Obituary

Charles Beeler, 81, died Sunday August 15th at home. Charles was born in Holyoke and graduated from Chicopee High School in 1958. Charles had a passion for music and spent most of his life playing, and teaching. He earned his Master of Music Education Degree at Hart College of Music and worked as the Director of Music at Minnechaug High School. He spent time on the faculty at HCC and served as the librarian for the Springfield Symphony Orchestra where he also played bassoon. In 1991 he left teaching to devote his time to church music, serving as the Minister of Music at Second Congregational Church in Holyoke from 1985-1995 and as Director of Music at St. Mary's Church in Longmeadow, from 1994-2002. Charles also served as the Dean of the Springfield chapter of the American Guild of Organists. Charles was predeceased by his father George Beeler and his mother Viola (McCray) Beeler. He leaves his brother David Beeler (Carol) of South Carolina and his sister Susan Cassidy (Jim) of Holyoke along with several nieces and nephews. All services are private. In honor of his love of animals, memorial donations may be made to the Charles Beeler Scholarship Fund, c/o Development Office, Tufts University School of Veterinary Medicine, 200 Westbrook Rd., Grafton, MA 01536.
