Donald (Gitchie) A. Gauthier, son of the late Estelle Bessett & Maurice Gauthier passed away on January 12 ^th , 2023 surrounded by family. Don was born in Chicopee and attended Holyoke Schools. He graduated from Holyoke Trade and was employed by Van Valkenburg as a tool and dye professional. Donald also worked for the South Hadley School Department as a custodian. Donald was an avid golfer, a member of the Holyoke Country Club and East Mountain Country Club in Westfield. He was a member of the American Legion in Holyoke as well as the Holyoke Revolver Club. He enjoyed woodworking, bowling, and growing vegetable gardens. He is predeceased by Sisters; Phyllis McNamara, Barbara Seiffert and Sandy Heroux, and his brother Roger. Donald is survived by his best friend and wife Laura of 68 years, sons; Roger and wife Linda of S. Hadley, David and wife Joanne Zucco of Agawam, three loving granddaughters; Lyndsay and Jason Dufresne of Granby, Cassie Duchesne and husband Ryan of S. Hadley and Amber Rodrigue and husband Anthony of South Hadley, beloved great-grandchildren, Logan & Emelia Dufresne, and Noah & Penelope Rodrigue, and his brother and sister in law's; June and Norman Davis of GA, Nancy Gauthier of Chicopee, and Tina Gauthier of South Hadley. Calling hours will be held for Donald at The O'Brien Family Funeral Home in South Hadley on Saturday January 21st from 3-5:45 pm. A prayer service will follow the calling hours at 5:45 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital or Shriners Hospital in Springfield.
