Doreen Sormanti, age 93, passed away in the comfort of home and family on Tuesday, April 2nd, 2024.  Doreen was born in Felsted, England on Sept 19, 1930 and was one of 4 daughters and 5 sons of Frank & May (Shuttlewood) Baker.  Doreen often regaled the family of the many stories regarding the very interesting times she experienced growing up in England during World War II. In the early 1950s, she met Richard Sormanti, an American GI from Providence, Rhode Island. Shortly thereafter they married on Memorial Day weekend of 1953, and began their journey as a military family across two continents, which resulted in the birth of two sons in England, one in North Dakota and a daughter in Chicopee, Mass. In addition to those military sites, there were stops at two Air Force bases in Germany, Otis AFB on the Cape, and Keesler AFB in Mississippi, before Doreen, husband & family transferred to Westover & Granby in 1963, where she lived for the remainder of her life. Doreen is survived by her husband of over 70 years Richard, three sons Steven (Liz), Rich (Sue), Mark (Carole) and her daughter Tami Fogarty (Mike).  She also leaves behind her sister Monica, brothers Dick, Brian & Barry. In addition, she was grandmother to three grandchildren in each of her children's family, Sean, Lauren, Ashley, Chris, Connor, Mike, Emily, Alex, Shae, Brenna & Braden, as well as 5 great grandchildren.  She was predeceased by her grandson Ryan Sormanti in 2016, as well as her sisters Marjery, Gladys and brothers Eric & Ray. Calling hours will be held on Saturday April 6th at The O'Brien Family Funeral Home, 33 Lamb St. S. Hadley, MA from 10:30am – 12:30pm with a private burial at a later date.
