Doris Gagnon, 89, died March 8th at the Holyoke Health Care Center after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Doris was born November 4, 1930 in Holyoke. She was the daughter of the late C. Dexter and Frances (Brown) Allen. She was a lifetime resident of South Hadley and graduated from South Hadley High School. Doris worked for the South Hadley School Department at the Intermediate School in the cafeteria for twenty four years retiring in 1993. She was a member of the United Methodist Church. Doris enjoyed winter trips to Florida and spending time with her family. She was predeceased by her husband of 60 years, Norman Gagnon, in 2015. Doris leaves three daughters Linda Simpson and husband Doug of South Hadley, Gail McDonnell and husband Andy of Naugatuck, CT and Donna Pinciak and husband Steve of South Hadley, six grandchildren Melisa Scott and husband Josh, Keith Simpson and wife Kathleen, Jennifer Witek and husband Mike, Christopher McDonnell and wife Melissa and Derek and Megan Pinciak, six great grandchildren Grace and Nora Scott, Charlie, Patrick and Piper Simpson and Emma McDonnell, one brother Ernest Allen and wife Winnie of Melbourne, FL and several nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank Dr. Robert Byrne and staff, second floor nurses at Holyoke Health Care Center and New England Hospice for their care and kindness. The funeral will be Thursday March 12th starting with calling hours from 9:30 am to 11:00 am at the Curran-O'Brien Funeral Home, 33 Lamb St., South Hadley followed by a funeral home service at 11:00 am. Burial in Village Cemetery.
