Obituary

Elizabeth Shea Clement (Liz) left us on April 2, 2025, at a youthful 71 years of age. Whether as a wife, mother, sister, friend, aunt, Mimi, or Doctor Shea, Liz made you feel heard and important. Liz was a force of positivity and joy, but moreover, a true empath – no matter the circumstance, when you were with Liz, you were the only person in the room.

Liz grew up on Paul Revere Road in Worcester, MA, the first daughter of Carolyn and Bill, with her five siblings: Billy, Duffy, Meg, Molly and Jack. She attended the Bancroft School, then Trinity College in Hartford, CT, where she met the love of her life, Henry Rawle Clement, before going on to earn her Ph.D. in Psychology from the University of Massachusetts. As a child and adolescent psychologist, Doctor Shea practiced in South Hadley, MA for over forty years, where she guided, saved, and molded the lives of countless young people. After her groundbreaking work in infant development and maternal self-esteem with Doctor T. Berry Brazelton, Doctor Shea improved the life of every young person who walked through her office doors. Unlike most of us, Doctor Shea saw things through the eyes of a child and never lost her youthful spirit.

Liz and Henry married in May of 1981 and spent over four decades living in their home in Granby, MA – a happy, joyous, welcoming forest escape for her family and friends. Liz was a mother who always put her children, Nick and Liv, first. Nick and Liv only met their match in Liz's heart when Liz became Mimi to her granddaughter Natalie. They lit up each other's worlds.

Liz was so many things – a Junior Olympic medalist, over thirty Grateful Dead shows, a front-row regular dancing at Jazz Fest in New Orleans for over twenty years, a herd of rare steaks, thousands of ingredients in complicated recipes, always crowded bird feeders and pots full of flowers, half of a dozen trips to Jamaica, brightly-colored summer dresses, and countless hours in a beach chair in Montauk and Key West with infinite shells collected.
