Obituary

Elizabeth ("Betty") A. Ward, age 80, died on June 15th, 2023. Betty was born in West Roxbury, Massachusetts, on May 2nd, 1943, and lived there until moving to Western Massachusetts in 2016 to be nearer to her family. Prior to her retirement, Betty had for many years worked as a nurse and in administration at the Lahey Clinic in Burlington, Massachusetts.

Betty had a wide circle of close friends with whom she enjoyed travelling to other countries, and to explore local venues, attend cultural events, meet people, see flowers, listen to birds, and enjoy the companionship of her close friends. Cape Cod was always at the top of her vacation destinations. Betty enjoyed her garden, was a member of the local garden club, and a member of the Massachusetts Museum of Fine Arts in Boston. She had a love for music and for many years was an active member of the chorus at Saint Theresa's Church in West Roxbury. Betty was a long-time member of the book club of the local branch of the Boston Public Library. But her greatest joy was spending time with her family.

Betty is survived by her sister, Jean M Ritchie, of South Hadley and her brother-in-law, Bob Ritchie. She was the beloved aunt of Gretchen Soucy, late of Agawam and her son, Cameron Soucy of Springfield, her nephew Graeme W. Ritchie of Providence, RI, and her niece Jannah M. Taylor of Northampton, and her children Andrew and Megan Tierney of Northampton, for all of whom she had earned the honored title of "Baunty".

Her family plans to have a celebration of her life in Boston on a date to be determined later this year.
