Obituary

Harvey Lee Cook, of South Hadley, Massachusetts, was called home on May 23, 2026, at the age of 90.

Harvey was born on January 14, 1936, in Orange County, North Carolina, to the late Thomas Lee Cook and Jessie Faucette Cook.

He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 65 years, Claire “Menard” Cook; his sister, Velma “Cook” Stone; his brother, Billy Bryant Cook; and his son-in-law, Stephen Farias.

Harvey leaves behind his loving children: Deborah Farias of Ludlow; Donna Ewart and her husband Bill of Edgartown; Thomas Cook and his wife Lynn of South Hadley; and James Cook and Tammy of West Halifax, Vermont.

He also leaves his cherished grandchildren: Danielle Ewart, Crystal Goulart, and AJ Ewart, all of Martha’s Vineyard; Benjamin and Matthew Farias of Ludlow; Amanda Colletta of Pleasantville, New York; and Ryan and Jamie Cook of West Halifax, Vermont.

Harvey was also blessed with four great-grandchildren: Finley and Liam Goulart of Martha’s Vineyard, and Noel and Lila Colletta of Pleasantville, New York.

In addition, he leaves his sisters-in-law, Susan Caulfield of Omaha, Nebraska, and Marilyn Menard of Granby, Massachusetts, along with many nieces and nephews.

He also leaves behind his beloved cats, Buddy and Kate, who brought him great companionship and comfort.

Harvey worked many jobs throughout his life, but before retirement he proudly served at Westover Air Force Base in Chicopee, Massachusetts, as part of the 439th Aircraft Generation Squadron (AGS), which operated and serviced the C-5 Galaxy aircraft. During his years of service, he received several commendations related to the Persian Gulf War and Desert Shield/Desert Storm conflicts of the 1990s.

Harvey and Claire built a wonderful life together in South Hadley, where they raised their family. Harvey was a man of simple wants who always placed his family first. He had a special love for old cars, steam engine locomotives, and Benny Hill-style slapstick comedy.

Family, friends, and neighbors all knew how talented and handy Harvey was. He personally designed and built the addition onto his family home. When his health allowed, he took great pride in maintaining his lawn and diligently caring for the many tasks around the house. In true military fashion, Harvey kept his home in immaculate condition and believed strongly in order, discipline, and hard work.

He will be eternally loved, deeply missed, and forever remembered by all who knew him.

Funeral arrangements are private and have been entrusted to O'Brien Family Funeral Home of South Hadley. Burial will take place at the Massachusetts Veterans' Memorial Cemetery.
