IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Henry J.
Holubecki
June 26, 1940 – December 3, 2021
Henry J. Holubecki was born on June 26, 1940 in Karaczun, Poland the son of the late Henry and Maria Holubecki. Henry survived the Holocaust and the horrors of the Nazi concentration camps where his family was forced into slave labor. Henry was predeceased by three brothers during their encampment. Although just a little boy, Henry possessed great skill in his ability to quickly maneuver around, and not get caught by German soldiers while stealing bread for his family. This was the inception of Henry's devotion to providing for his family and his unwavering work ethic.
Once liberated from the camps, Henry along with his parent's, sister's Irene and Theresa and brother Alfred where sponsored by a Catholic priest from Manassas, Virginia to come to the United States. They settled in Bristow, VA where the Benedictine Nuns ran the Linton Hall Military Academy. Through the sponsorship of these Nuns, Henry attended the academy where he excelled despite not speaking the language. After sometime Henry's family reconnected with extended family from Poland who had settled in Holyoke, MA. Henry began attending the Mater Dolorosa school and graduated from Holyoke Trade School as a machinist in 1959. After graduation Henry served his country and enlisted in the Army National Guard at Fort Dix, NJ and served through the Cuban Missile Crisis.
After his discharge, Henry worked for the Chicopee Undergarment factory where he excelled as a talented machinist working alongside engineers that relied on his innate ability to understand and design machinery. He was quickly recognized in his field. He then worked for Buxton Wallet and the Gemini Corporation of Springfield where he served for many years as the Director of Operations. While with Gemini, Henry gained great respect for his talents with machinery and was sent across the country to set up the machinery for new factories. After Gemini, Henry became owner and CEO of CBS Carpet Binding Service where he and his brother, Alfred provided high quality custom and commercial carpeting and flooring services until his retirement in 2019. Throughout Henry's life and long work career, he made many friends, some of whom he stayed in contact with since the days of the camps.
In his spare time Henry was an avid outdoorsman. He loved hiking, hunting, fishing and boating. He had and eye for photography and unique finds at flea markets. He was extremely close to and protective of, his siblings and their children. One of his greatest joys was spending time with his family. From family vacations in Rhode Island or Cape Cod, taking his nephews on fishing or hiking excursions, camping at DAR State Park to weekly dinners and road trips with his sisters. He was the patriarch in the truest sense. He was a great teacher, guide and motivator for "doing the right thing". He was a life coach that would help anyone navigate through both the beauty and the challenges in life. He was the epitome of a wise Uncle with the heart of a Father. He was a man of depth who despite his early trauma did not let it define him, but shaped him into the great man he became.
Henry will be missed by his family in ways that are immeasurable, especially by his beloved brother and best friend, Alfred Holubecki of Holyoke, his nephews James Pieciak and wife, Laureen of Three Rivers, John Knowles of West Springfield, Christopher Pieciak and wife Janina of Chicopee, Jason Knowles and wife Lytania of Marblehead, Mitchell Knowles and wife Cindy of East Longmeadow and his niece, Lisa Knowles of Ludlow and several great nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by his sisters Irene Holubecki Pieciak in 1994, Theresa Holubecki Knowles in 2004, with whom he was extremely close and his nephew Richard Pieciak, 2012.
