Herman J. Coulombe Jr. of Springfield, 86, died peacefully on Wednesday, November 22, 2023 surrounded by his family. He was born on October 26, 1937 in Ware, MA to Herman J. Coulombe Sr. And Eva (Lanou) Coulombe. He was predeceased by his wife of 59 years, Joan Ann (Moore) Coulombe and his daughter, Diane Basile.

Herman is survived by his children Darlene George and husband Bob of Springfield, Darrin Coulombe and wife MaryAnn of Virginia, Donna Coulombe of Orange, and Daniel Coulombe and wife Jennifer of Newberry, SC. He will be deeply missed by his 11 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Herman joined the Amherst Fire Department in 1967 and retired as Captain after 26 years of service in 1993. He was instrumental in developing the EMT program in the fire department. He was certified as an EMT by the IAFF in 1979. He was a Private First Class in the US Marine Corps reserves, 1st rifle company in Springfield from 1955 until his honorable discharge in 1962. He raised his family in Amherst where he was very active in the community coaching youth football for many years. He loved vacationing with his family in York Beach, ME. He enjoyed Sunday newspaper crossword puzzles. He was an avid golfer and was a member of Amherst Golf Course for several years. A celebration of life will be held in the spring.
