IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Janet A.
Doolittle
January 13, 1947 – January 21, 2021
It is with deep sorrow and much love that we announce the peaceful passing of Janet Ann Doolittle, 74 of South Hadley, on the morning of January 21, 2021, surrounded by the love of her family, in Baystate Medical Center. Janet was born in Holyoke on January 13, 1947, the daughter of the late Emmet and Estelle (Giroux) Moynihan. She was the former wife of James Doolittle, also of South Hadley.
Janet is survived by her four loving children including three sons and a daughter: James Doolittle of South Hadley and his girlfriend Elizabeth Starzyk and her children Anna, Macey and Mitchell who called her "Memere Janet". Steven Doolittle and his wife Jen, of Blandford, and Corey Thompson of South Hadley. Also, her daughter, Audrey Collins of Easthampton, her brother Patrick "PJ" Moynihan and her seven grandchildren, who she adored beyond measure, Nicholas Doolittle, Katherine Fickett, Joseph Collins, Kimberly Collins, Madelyn Doolittle, Catherine Doolittle and Moira Doolittle. Janet leaves behind many beloved friends, but especially her "sister-cousin" Minnie, and her "sister-friend" Pam. She was predeceased by her brother Robert Moynihan in 1966.
Janet was a stay at home mom for many years, and was actively involved in all of her children's interests including boy/girl scouts, gymnastics, band/colorguard, and baseball. She assumed leadership roles in the scouting programs, helped sew uniforms and flags for band/colorguard, and never missed a ball game, dance recital or gymnastics meet. Janet was loved by all of the neighborhood kids, who she loved dearly, and always welcomed her children's friends with open arms. In 1990, Janet began working as a receptionist at Springfield Neurosurgical & Neurological Group. Janet rarely missed a day in her 30 years with the group, and was always willing to lend a hand to friends in other departments. Janet made lifelong friends with her "work girls", who became such important people in her life. Janet enjoyed sewing, painting, and gardening, and her love for her cats was endless. Janet could always be found on the weekends at tag sales with her favorite person, her mom. She loved the summers she spent at the Wagon Wheel campground with her mom and Corey. Janet loved going to the beach, and up to the "camp" on Crystal Lake in NH, and all of the large family reunion gatherings. She treasured memories made with family and friends over the years.
The family wishes to thank the staff at both Mercy Hospital and Baystate Medical Center for their care and compassion.
