John C. Pietrzykowski, 73, died Tuesday August 26th at home. He was born in Vlissingen, Holland on September 12, 1951 to the late Antony and Johanna Pietrzykowski. He grew up in Holyoke and attended the Trade School before enlisting in the Army during the Vietnam War, serving in Germany and then in Vietnam. He served from 1968 to 1974 as a Sergeant and received the National Defense Service Medal and the Republic of Vietnam Service Medal. After returning from Vietnam he returned to Holyoke and worked as a roofer for Roofer Local 248. He received his Bachlor's degree from UMASS for Business and Accounting. He worked as a substitute teacher and an accountant for the City of Holyoke and also at Holyoke VOC. John served on the Holyoke School Committee. He attended Mater Dolorosa and Immaculate Conception Church. He was predeceased by his parents and his niece Jill Whalen. He leaves his wife Theresa (Fontaine) Pietrzykowski, two sons John Pietrzykowski Jr. of Chicopee and Michael Pietrzykowski and his wife Kara of Jacksonville, NC, his brother Frank of Halifax, VT, his twin brother Edward and his wife Donna of South Hadley, sisters Hendrika Whalen and her partner Dennis Cory of W. Halifax, VT and Annette Deschaine and her husband Gary of W. Halifax, VT, many nieces and nephews and his faithful dog Zoey. Committal service will be Thursday September 4th at 3:00 pm at the Massachusetts Veteran's Memorial Cemetery in Agawam. The O'Brien Family Funeral Home in South Hadley has been entrusted with the arrangements.
