Obituary

Joseph N. LeCours, a man so loved with a twinkle in his eyes and a mischievous smile, passed away on October 30, 2019 with his family by his side. Joe was born October 5, 1933 in Springfield to Paul and Imelda (LaBranch) Le Cours. He lived most of his life in South Hadley, graduating from Holyoke Trade School in 1950. Joe was predeceased by his wife of 59 years, Georgette (Desjardins), son Russell and brother Robert. He is survived by his son Joseph G. LeCours, daughter and son-in-law Darlene (Windy) and Thomas Pelland, grandchildren Amanda Boucher (and husband Brenden) and Stephanie Pelland, brother Paul LeCours (and wife Lyndia) wife Beverly Howells and her children Phillip Howells (and wife Karen), Susan Dolton (and husband David) and their children. After his wife passed, he met a wonderful woman, Bev Howells. She stayed by his side after he had a debilitating stroke and later married through the Church. Even after his stroke in 2012 Joe continued to live life to the fullest. Joe loved life! He started his day exercising and ended it with a prayer. He loved going for a Sunday ride with no destination, walking or riding bikes. He loved to work, the more complex a new job, the bigger it was, the better-he worked as a construction foreman and was a proud member of the Carpenter's Union for more than 60 years. There are not many buildings we would pass without him pointing out that he worked on them. As proud as he was of his work, nothing compared to the pride and love he had for his wife and children. He was a devoted husband and father, a best friend to his children and later to his son-in-law and grandchildren. Joe and his late wife Georgie traveled the U.S. and Canada, documenting their travels with photos. In later years Joe loved to share his adventures and places he had been, looking through the many photo albums. Later he continued to travel and bought a 3 wheel bike to continue to ride with his second wife Beverly. Joe was a terrific story teller and captured the hearts of everyone! He was the go-to-man. If you needed something done you called Joe, from major re-models to changing a lightbulb. If you needed help, he was there with all his tools ready to go! Calling hours at the Curran-O'Brien Funeral Home will be Thursday November 7th from 4pm to 7pm. Service at the Curran-O'Brien Funeral Home will be Friday November 8th at 10 am followed by burial in Notre Dame Cemetery. Joe and Bev enjoyed going to meetings with the UMASS stroke support. In lieu of flowers, donation checks may be made payable to UMASS with ComDis Aphasia on the memo line. Mail checks to: Jacquie Kurland, 358 North Pleasant St., Amherst, MA 01003.
