Joyce Ann (Pollard) Carrington, 80, passed away peacefully early Monday morning in her sleep and at home.  She was the daughter of the late James Pollard and Yvonne (Bedard) Pollard and leaves behind one sister Susan (Pollard) Johnson and her husband Robert Johnson. She was born and raised in Springfield MA. She was incredibly bright and motivated as a young woman and worked at H.P. Hood making ice cream to put herself through college. She became the first in her family to attain a college degree when she received her BA in Business Administration from AIC. In her early career she worked at Palmer Goodell and Keeney as an accountant. In 1965 she married Roger Carrington, who she shared over 57 years with. After moving to Chicopee in 1966 and starting a family she continued her education further. Attending the STCC nursing program she became a Registered Nurse and also was the valedictorian of her class, graduating in 1985. She worked as a Nurse for many years at Baystate's Neonatal Intensive Care Unit where her kind spirit and gentle nature helped many young families through their most trying times. Her greatest devotion however was to her family who she selflessly sacrificed for throughout her life. Her daughter Lynn Carrington and son Steven Carrington adored her and will forever miss her warm loving personality and gentle giving nature. Her ability to nurture extended to her many flower gardens that bloomed bright for over fifty years. She also loved animals and missed her dogs Yummie and Jake in her final year. Calling hours will be at O'Brien Family Funeral Home, 33 Lamb St., South Hadley MA on Thursday March 9th from 4-7PM. Followed by her funeral service at Agawam Veterans Cemetery on Friday March 10th at 11AM. In lieu of Flowers donations can be made to Daikin Humane Society 171 Union St. Springfield MA.
