Obituary

Merle H. Campbell, 85, died Monday surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Littleton, ME, grew up in Portland, ME and graduated from Portland High School in 1953. He entered the U.S. Air Force after graduation. He served during the Vietnam War and retired as Chief Master Sergeant and Tower Chief at Westover Air Force Base. He later retired as Plant Manager for Dennison National after working there for 20 years. Merle enjoyed spending retirement on his sunporch at his South Hadley home where he lived for 45 years. He leaves his wife Shirley (Tack) Campbell, his daughter Amy LeBlanc and her husband Stephen of Easthampton, his granddaughter Tiffany Cyran of Quincy, step-daughters Kathy Lamontagne of South Hadley and Kristine Champigny of Feeding Hills, step-son David Dzuris of Charlotte, NC and step-grandchildren Amanda and Aimee Lamontagne, Kimberly Michaud and Matthew Bell. His family will remember him most for his quick wit, keen mind and love of books. The funeral home service will be Friday February 12 th at 11:00 am at the Curran-O'Brien Funeral Home, 33 Lamb St., South Hadley, MA followed by burial in West St. Cemetery with Military Honors. There will be walk through calling hours on Thursday February 11 th from 4:00 to 7:00 pm. Memorial donations may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project.
