Obituary

Norman Roger Racine, 88, died peacefully Friday, April 8, 2022 at the Soldier's Home in Holyoke with family at his side.  He was born on March 1, 1934 in Chicopee Massachusetts to Germaine (Roy)(Racine) Bernash and Roger Racine. Norman was ever the proud Marine and served in the U.S. Marine Corps. during the Korean Conflict and received the Korean Service Medal, U.N. Service Medal and National Defense Service Medal.  Norman met his wife Ann (Farley) while working at The Spaulding Company.  They married in May of 1956 and went on to have five children together and enjoyed nearly 66 years of marriage.  Norman then went on to have a long and fruitful career with the Holyoke Water Power Co./Northeast Utilities up to his retirement in 1992. Norman was an honorable man who took his faith seriously. He was extremely active in St. Patrick's Parish in South Hadley.   As a member of the Men's Club, he organized the Parish Picnic for years, ran Bingo, Casino nights, New Year's Eve parties, and participated in the annual Zany Review.  No one loved a party more than Norman.  He loved golf, playing cards and traveling.  His son was his favorite golf partner and they shared many adventures on the golf course over the years. He was predeceased by his father, Roger Racine, his step-father, Edward Bernash, his mother Germaine Bernash, his daughter, Janet Racine and his son- in-law, John Hamel. He is survived by his wife, Ann (Farley), son Raymond Racine and wife Linda, daughters Carol Racine and husband Mark Rege, Susan Hamel (John), and Nancy Dingman; six grandchildren: April, Matthew, Francis, Christine, Jeffrey, and Nathan; nine great grandchildren; brothers, Earl, Donald, Ronald, and Wayne, sisters, Eleanor, Joan, and Darlene, and numerous nieces and nephews. Family and friends are invited to gather on Thursday, April 14, at O'Brien Family Funeral Home, 33 Lamb St., South Hadley, for a period of visitation from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m., followed by a service at 11 a.m. in the funeral home. Burial will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in Norman's name may be made to the Jimmy Fund/ Dana Farber Cancer Institute, P.O. Box 849168, Boston, MA 02284-9168.
