Obituary

Patricia Ann (Smith) Jasmin beloved mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend, gained her angel wings on Sunday, September 15, 2024, at the age of 87.

Pat was born December 11, 1936 in Springfield, MA to Edward and Adele (Gniady) Smith.  She and her sisters Virginia Vandomo and Maryann Potter grew up on Bowles Park in Springfield in the house their father built and she attended the High School of Commerce. Pat worked for 20 years at Springfield Tire before opening her own business, Amherst Tire Center, in 1979.

Pat married Norman Jasmin in 1956 and they raised their five children in Southwick, MA, for many years before moving to Amherst, MA, in 1981. In 2015, Pat moved to South Hadley, MA.

Pat leaves behind her loving daughters Marion Jasmin of Springfield; Jeanne Brzycki (Todd Huhtanen) of Belchertown; Theresa (Dave) Niemczura of Palmer; and Cathy (Tim) West of Hadley. Pat is also survived by the light of her eyes, her grandchildren Dan Brzycki, Nick and Lexi West, Matt and Alanna Niemczura, and her "adopted" grandchildren Jayden and Nate McMains.

Pat was predeceased by her husband Norman (1989), son Michael (2013), sisters Virginia Vandomo (2017) and Maryann Potter (2009), and son-in-law Ed Brzycki (2013).

Pat was a strong, independent, and determined lady, with a kind and beautiful spirit. She was a faithful and active communicant of Most Holy Redeemer Church serving as a lector, on many committees, and helping to organize many events. She built many life-long friendships, and for years has enjoyed her weekly Sunday breakfast with her dear friends Sandy Wentworth, Donna Paddock, and Rae Ann and Keith Cadieux.

Pat enjoyed the simple things:  gardening, reading, birdsong, and the roar of the ocean.  She was a talented seamstress, knitter, crocheter, and theorem painter.  Pat also loved to travel including trips to Canada, England, Italy, and recently a bucket-list trip to the Panama Canal.

Her greatest joys were spending time with her family, hosting picnics and family reunions, and spoiling her grandchildren. Holidays, especially Christmas, were times to be with family and friends-who-are-like-family. Of course, her annual trip to Misquamicut Beach, a tradition from Pat's childhood that she continued with her daughters and grandchildren, was the highlight of the year.  This tradition included Bob, DeeDee, Emma, and Amanda Tobin, who became part of her extended family. Her love for the beach was only outshined by her love for her family being together at the beach.

Pat said life was about quality, not quantity, and she was blessed to have both. She shared in her final days, "I lived my life to the fullest."

Calling hours will be held for Pat at O'Brien Family Funeral Home, 33 Lamb St. South Hadley, MA 01075 on Thursday, September 19th from 4-7 pm.
