Paul F. "Ruby" Ruel, 77, died Sunday September 10th in Holyoke Medical Center. He was born in Holyoke, son of the late Clarence and Loretta (Desmarais) Ruel and lived most of his life in South Hadley. Paul worked for John Hancock as a longtime insurance salesman. Paul was an outstanding athlete, playing baseball and basketball for South Hadley High School and was also an avid golfer at the Orchards Golf Club. He leaves his cousins Robert Ruel and his wife Ruth of Granby, Lawrence Desmarais of South Hadley, Patsey (Desmarais) Hoolihan, Barbara Buttercase and Carol Buttercase, his step cousins to whom he was extremely close to Sheila and Brian Tremblay, both of Holyoke and his special friends Paul Boudreau, Ged Boudreau, Eddie Garbacik, Gerry Aubrey, Steve Bakos, Wayne Petri and Pic Dulude. The funeral will be Friday September 22nd starting with a calling hour at the O'Brien Family Funeral Home, 33 Lamb St., South Hadley from 9:00am to 10:00am followed by a funeral mass in St. Theresa Church at 10:30 am.
