Pauline L. (Nardi) Casey passed away on August 22, 2026, surrounded by her family at home. She will be deeply and dearly missed by her family, friends, and all whose hearts she touched along her way. She will be remembered for her generosity, kindness, thoughtfulness, and compassion.

She was born on June 26, 1935, at the old Providence Hospital on Elm St. in Holyoke to Edward and Louise (Todt) Nardi; she grew up in South Hadley and attended Plains and Carew Schools, and South Hadley High, graduating in 1953. She attended Mt. Holyoke College and Holyoke Community College and graduated with an Associate Degree in Nursing. As a Registered Nurse, she worked at the Soldiers’ Home, Mercy Hospital, Holyoke Hospital, Weldon Rehab, and Elaine Nursing Home. She was active in South Hadley on various committees and was a proud member of Town Meeting, the Friends of South Hadley Seniors, Friends of Buttery Brook, and Friends of the South Hadley Falls Village Cemetery. She was awarded Citizen of the Year in 2020 by the South Hadley Lions Club.

Pauline loved to travel and made trips throughout North America, the UK, Europe, and the Virgin Islands. She also made several trips to Diecimo and Lucca in Tuscany, Italy where family still resides.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Michael Nardi, former husband William Casey, her daughter Kathleen, son William Patrick, son Jerome (Jerry), grandson Timothy, sister-in-law Carol Casey Borowiec, and dear friends William Bacis, Peggie (Turcotte) Tonelli, Marty Tonelli, and Robert (Bob) Ruel.

She leaves her children Catherine Swearengen, husband John, and daughter Anna Maria of Memphis; Peter Casey and Christine Casey and daughter Gabrielle of South Hadley; Carolyn Casey Chmiel, husband Don of Salisbury, and daughter Katie Lea Baca Dempsey, her husband Sean, and son Frederick (Freddie), great grandson, of Concord, NH. She is also survived by longtime friend Ruth (Mondor) Ruel of Granby.

She leaves her sister-in-law Robin Nardi of Pittsfield and many nieces and nephews on the Nardi side of her family. On the Todt side, she leaves behind cousins, including William (Bill), Lt. Col., Ret., his wife Betty (McLaughlin) of Sumter, SC, and their family.

Donations made to any charity of your choice or the above-mentioned Friends groups will be gratefully appreciated by the family. In accordance with her wishes, all services will be private.
