Reinaldo Ray
Barreto
Mar 5, 1948 — Aug 12, 2026
South Hadley, MA
Reinaldo “Ray” Barreto, 78, passed away peacefully on August 12, 2026, leaving behind a lifetime of memories and a family who will carry his love with them forever.
Born on March 5, 1948, in Vega Alta, Puerto Rico, Ray grew up in Vega Baja, where his early years helped shape the hardworking, humble, and devoted man he would become. He later brought his family to West Chester, Pennsylvania, where he lived for many years before eventually settling in Holyoke, Massachusetts. It was there that he met his beloved wife, Carole Brunault Barreto, beginning a life together built upon family, devotion, and love.
Ray was a talented and exceptionally hardworking mechanic. There was very little he could not fix. With years of experience working on all types of vehicles, he approached every problem with patience, confidence, and that gentle smile so many people will remember. He took pride in his work, but more importantly, he took pride in being someone others could depend on.
Ray was a quiet man, but his love spoke loudly through his actions. He was generous with his time, his knowledge, and his helping hands. Whether someone was family, a friend, or simply someone in need, Ray was always willing to help—near or far. He had a stubborn streak that those who loved him knew well, but beneath it was a deeply protective heart. His greatest love was always his family.
To his wife, children, and grandchildren, Ray was so much more than a husband, father, and grandfather. He was a steady presence, a protector, a teacher, and someone whose love could be felt even in the quietest moments. He did not always need words to show how much he cared. His hands, his work, his sacrifices, his patience, and the way he showed up for the people he loved said everything.
Ray leaves behind his beloved wife, Carole Brunault Barreto; his children, Ryan Brunault, Adam Brunault, Elizabeth Brunault and her husband Ruben Santana Jr. of Chicopee, Massachusetts, and Ricardo Rivera of Coatesville, Pennsylvania; and his cherished grandchildren, Treyton Brunault, Izayah Santana, Hailee Brunault, Zackariah Santana, and Benyamin Santana, all of Chicopee, Massachusetts.
Ray is survived by seven siblings, along with many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends whom he loved dearly. He leaves behind a family who was deeply loved and a lifetime of memories that will never be forgotten.
Ray's presence may no longer be beside us, but the things he gave us will remain: his strength, his generosity, his determination, his gentle smile, and most of all, his unwavering love for his family.
A father's love does not end when he leaves us. It becomes a part of who we are.
For those fortunate enough to have known Ray, he will be remembered as a hardworking and humble man with a generous heart—a man who could fix almost anything, who quietly helped those around him, and who loved his family more deeply than words could ever express.
He will be profoundly missed, forever loved, and always remembered. Calling hours at the O’Brien Family Funeral Home are Sunday August 30 from 2:00 to 4:00pm.
