Tommy Michael Herman, 72, known to many friends as "Wooddog", passed away unexpectedly on May 26 th at home. He was born in York, PA, to the late Samuel and Virginia (Swinderman) Herman. Tommy enlisted in the US Airforce in 1968, serving out of Westover Airforce Base and was briefly stationed in Guam, before being honorably discharged in 1972. After the service, he held various jobs as a mechanic and in managerial positions and retired from his most recent job at Richco in 2019. He enjoyed several interests throughout his life building models, stamp and coin collecting, family cookouts, tinkering with any electronic gadget he could get his hands on, and in his retirement, spent many hours researching his family tree. He was a great man and an amazing father, friend, and confidant, with a generous heart and gentle soul, leaving a void that will never be filled in the lives of all who knew and loved him. He was predeceased by his former mother-in-law Mary Dufault and is survived by his daughter Tracy L. Johnson of Plymouth, his son Matthew S. Herman and wife Jodi of South Hadley, and his former wife and best friend Linda Baranowski of Chesterfield. He also leaves behind his grandchildren Brian Johnson, Jr., Dillan Herman, Hana Johnson and Emily Herman, his great-grandson Jacksyn Johnson, as well as his sister Millicent Bobb of Hershey, PA, and his brothers Samuel Herman and wife Pat of Dover, PA, and David Herman and wife Brenda of York, PA. He will be greatly missed by his extended family in Massachusetts, Bryan and Barbara Hauschild, Patty Dufault, Pauline Denis, and Mike and Sue Denis, along with many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews in both Massachusetts and Pennsylvania. Services will be held on Wednesday, June 2 nd , starting with calling hours from 4:00-7:00pm at Curran-O'Brien Funeral Home, 33 Lamb St, South Hadley, MA 01075. Family and friends are invited to attend the committal service with Military Honors at the Mass Veteran's Memorial Cemetery in Agawam on Thursday, June 3 rd , at 9:00am. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Shriner's Hospital for Children, 516 Carew St., Springfield, MA 01104.
