William T. Baxter, 89, died on Thursday, January 29, at the Soldiers’ Home in Holyoke, Massachusetts. Bill was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, and a steady presence in the lives of those who knew him—warm, generous, and a friend to all. Above all else, he was a great family man who took deep pride in his children and grandchildren and the time he shared with them.
Born in Gardner, Massachusetts, Bill was raised in Athol and graduated from Athol High School in 1956. He went on to build a long and respected career in market research and administration, holding positions at Spalding, National Blank Book, and Holyoke Community College.
Bill was an avid golfer and a familiar face at The Orchards Golf Course and Hickory Ridge Golf Club. He especially enjoyed the camaraderie of the game, and over the years recorded two holes-in-one.
He also served his country in the United States Air Force during the Korean War.
Bill is survived by his son, William T. Baxter Jr. of Holyoke; his daughter, Erika Frado, and her husband, Bill, of Northlake, Texas; and two beloved grandchildren, Hunter Frado of Austin, Texas, and Mia Frado of New York City. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his wife, Patricia Baxter, in 2024, as well as his brother, Edward Baxter, and his sisters, Dawn Duguay and Diane Baxter.
The funeral will be held at O’Brien Family Funeral Home on February 10th with calling hours 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., followed by a funeral service at 11:00 a.m. The burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery, South Hadley.
