IN LOVING MEMORY OF
William "Billy"
Meara
September 7, 1940 – July 10, 2022
William R. "Billy" Meara, Jr. born September 7, 1940, passed away in his sleep at home on July 10, 2022. Billy graduated from Chicopee High School in 1959 and married his high school sweetheart, Elaine Dumont Meara in February 1964. Billy worked most of his life as an Insulator in the Asbestos Trade leaving to venture out into business ownership. He was the owner of Country Club Mobil in Longmeadow for many years serving the community of Longmeadow and making many new friends along the way. He and his brother Bobby then bought the Broadview in Holyoke, MA eventually changing the name to O'Meara's Pub. During their ownership, they remodeled after a devastating fire and created a "go to" destination for locals and passers by as well. Together Billy and Bobby also ran the concessions at Holyoke Country Club and Chicopee Country Club. Developing many long lasting and deep relationships with many customers and more importantly, employees. Many of these employees became more like Billy's kids and family, than employees. Billy's favorite pastime was playing Golf and was an active member at the Springfield Country Club in West Springfield, MA. Billy was a fierce competitor and was known as a sniper with his irons. His best memories were playing golf with his wife, Elaine, AKA The Saint, and playing in the June Four Ball with his son, Scot. Billy was the consummate gentleman. Always holding the door open for a lady and standing when a lady walked in the room. For those within his close circle, he was available at a moment's notice to help on a project or to tell you how you did it wrong, and then correct it! He was, as he said many times, a stand up guy! Stubborn, pigheaded, opinionated, boisterous, are all traits Billy excelled at. Behind that facade, though, Billy was caring and genuine. He would always be happy to sit and talk, and inject his viewpoints whether they were wanted or not. Billy was predeceased by his mother, Lucille Meara and his father Bill Meara, Sr. He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Elaine, his sister Charlotte Boudreau of Florida, sister Diane Ditmar of South Carolina, his brother Robert "Bobby" Meara and his wife Laura of Massachusetts, his son Scot Meara and his wife Jennifer of East Longmeadow, his daughter Tracy Panaia and her husband Bruce of Springfield, MA, as well as his grandson's Bryan Meara and Riley Meara as well as nieces and nephews. The calling hours will be Friday July 15 th at the O'Brien Family Funeral Home, 33 Lamb St., South Hadley from 4:00 to 7:00 pm. A private family service will be held at a later date.
